Unicorns Are Forever

It's been a really long day, but a really good one, too.

It started at about 4 a.m. this morning when I was able to buy a pair of shoes.  The shoes I bought are the ones pictured below.

John got those for my birthday!

I then tried to go to sleep, but since I was far too excited about unicorn shoes, I did a bit of internet reading catch up.  And I have a lot of interesting new things to share--eventually.

There was something else special about today, though; it was raining.  And I really do love it when it  rains.  It just adds a special little coziness to the day, which is why when John's Uncle Tom and family friend, Cynthia, came by tonight with pizza for dinner, we lit the gas fireplace. (Luckily, John got home early enough today to drive me to the grocery store to get all the things I needed.  Cleaning today took me forever, and I don't know that I'd have made it back in time for our guests.)

After a wonderful evening of dinner with the two of them, John and I went and took a walk--hoping to find a new coffee place that is opening nearby open; unfortunately it was not.  Still, walking through the mist with him made me really happy, and we got some practice in for Europe--in case there are rainy nights there.

We decided that since the coffee place wasn't open, we'd head over to Starbuck's where he got a hot chocolate and I got a vanilla steamer (which is one of my favorite drinks at night--nice, warm, and vanilla-y).  Then we came home and watched the Monday episode of Castle on the DVR--which is what reminded me of something else that John got me for me.

While I won't say that every moment of today was fun, it did remind me that there are little joys to be found everywhere--in the smiles that we bring to others, to just sharing a walk in the rain with the one you love.  I was reminded to take each moment as it came--conquering each problem as it arose, and to not worry too much if something wasn't perfect.  After all, I'm certainly not going to regret that I didn't get all the dishes done tonight or that I still have so much laundry to do.

Instead, I'm going to count my unicorns, be glad that I have such wonderful people in my life to share them with, and enjoy each moment knowing that the things that matter most are never hard to make time for.
