A Little Bit of This....

...and a whole lot of that.

It becomes clear to me that the more I write this blog, the more I care about things in general--about people, ideas, systems that govern our lives, music, theater....  You name it, and I care a little more about it when I'm having to think about it and write about it.  And it's been interesting to me to see how very different I think about things when I'm not having to write here about them every day.

I find myself easily caring less about the world around me and focusing more on myself.  Interestingly enough, though, I still look; I just find myself less interested in what I happen to see--as though, somehow, the world holds very little of real importance unless I'm thinking about others.

It makes me wonder if writing a blog would be a good exercise for everyone just so that they can see how and why things become, or are, important to them.

That said, here are some fun things I found for you all today.

The Lunar Eclipse

Video streaming by Ustream

Part one and part two of a live stream of the total lunar eclipse.  It's kind of slow, and I'm not sure the music is the best; but it is an actual stream of the event.  So if you have a bit of time, or if you just want to sift through the frames, here it is for you to see.

Ebola Outbreak in Africa and the CDC

I have to admit that I'm always fascinated by diseases--how they work, why they occur, and what we can do to combat them.  This week, there was an outbreak of Ebola in Guinea in western Africa.  Sadly there is still no cure for the virus, but scientists are working toward it.  What interests me, however, isn't so much how they're working toward a cure, but that we have so much knowledge at our fingertips about the disease--and so quickly.

The Centers for Disease Control are pretty amazing.  Not only can you read about the recent news with the Ebola outbreak in Africa, but you can get travel news for any country you're going to visit--along with tips and warnings from their site.

Technology has allowed us to combat diseases more quickly, and, it seems, more efficiently.  If you want to find a pro for technology, I think this is definitely one of them.

Joss Whedon's Creations in the Disney Animated World

The Mary Sue posted up a few pictures along with a Whedon tweet, and while I'm somewhat amused (and glad) that Joss Whedon approves of the art, I am pretty sure fans of both shows would have loved it anyway (and probably would watch them if they actually made these into animated films).

So here are Stephen Byrnes' ideas for some Disney-themed Firefly and Buffy shows.

Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan and a Little Bit of Annie

But not all together...because today is a little bit of this...and a whole lot of that, after all.

Caught these both from The Mary Sue, and I thought I'd share them.  Enjoy the rest of your week, and I do hope you find yourself humming a little happy song until it ends.
