Cinco de Mayo -- Celebrating Earth and Its Many Cultures

Today as we celebrate the Mexican culture here in the United States with Cinco de Mayo, I think it's important to realize, and celebrate, the melting pot that is America--a land that has accepted so many cultures into its borders and inspired a dream of freedom around the world.  That said, I think it's important to learn about other cultures, too--to embrace the idea that we are all citizens of the same planet.

The video I am sharing here is pretty long, and if you don't have time to watch it all right now, that's all right.  But I think it is worth it to spend a bit of time watching because it highlights the beauty of music, space, and our accomplishments here at home in the United States, as well as the accomplishments, music, and cultures of those who are contributing to the International Space Station.  If anything, the ISS is a sign that we can work together--in spite of our differences--to create something lasting, something enriching, and something truly inspiring.

How amazing is that?  To be able to play music with someone in space!  While these are just stepping stones toward further space exploration, I think they also signify a truly amazing birth--the beginning of this idea that we are Earthlings.  Not just Americans, or Russians, or Mexicans, or Japanese--but inhabitants of the planet Earth.  And maybe our joint ventures at the ISS will help us to continue to embrace that idea long after it is gone.

And speaking of further space exploration, check out what NASA's been up to this past week.

And in case some of you missed it yesterday, (I know I did,) here's a little something about Star Wars Day--May the Fourth be with you!

I hope all of you have a good rest of your week, and I'll sign off with a little song of my own!  (I won't vouch for the video; it's a little weird, but the song is golden.)
